Come Fly With Us! PLEASE READ: Waiver to12k AGL / 20k MSL. Up-size your chute for thin air. Watch the FB page for San Luis Valley Rocketeers for updates, go/no-go, etc. That's the official spot for info. REGISTRATION: We don't have a mechanism for that. So comment or use "GOING" on this event to indicate if you are going. If you are unsure, comment or use "INTERESTED". If you are really not coming, seek professional help but comment or click "NOT GOING" so we know who to pray for. Also, you must absolutely totally without question have a current NAR or TRA card in hand on your person (unless you are a kiddo...). No exceptions. FEES: Bring 10 bucks to help pay for the toilet (s) Help set up if you are there early. Help tear down if you are there at the end. Be friendly and flexible. Take a turn at LCO if you have experience. We are all in this together. But if you really want to donate a couple of bucks we will buy rails and potties with it. Promise. FACILITIES: Launch site is gated and locked when not in use. We will open officially Friday Mid-day. If you want to camp or get in earlier, get a hold of Matt Abbey ahead of time for a key. Dry camping. Ground is level but footing can be uneven. Closed-toed shoes and high tops recommended. EQUIPMENT: We have about 30 small rods, several 1/4 rods, a few 8-foot 1010's, and one 16-foot-long 1515 rail. We have a new wireless launch system with ( still testing ) new home-built relay boxes. CONTEST: Spud-lofting target altitude to 2500'. Here are the rules: 1- get a spud from Safety. 2- weigh that sucker. Know your rocket and your engine. Confirm stability and sufficient thrust. Then re-confirm. 3- launch for target altitude of 2500' agl. 4- you can make as many attempts as you want, but it's gotta be a new spud each time. No re-using the same old potato. Winner is the person who gets closest, over or under, period. This is a fun, lighthearted contest. But there will be no BS with the safety and stability question. Then think about cooking your potato. Cheese, sour cream, and bacon are nice options. Revel in the glory of consuming the heart of an interstellar potato. Own that supersonic spud. COVID: Stay many feets apart. Wear a mask. Wash your hands. Do not come if you are feeling "off", or worse. Do not come if you are high risk. Do not come if you are concerned about gatherings of any type. Do not come if you think lima beans are a worthy vegetable. HOTELS: We have most of the major mid-market chain places. But think about the Dunes Inn. it's older, it's clean, it's the only one downtown, walking distance to the restaurants and bars, plus the owner's kid is an L1 and one of our earliest members. DIRECTIONS FROM ALAMOSA: -Travel South on HWY 285 to County Road 12. Turn Right. -Go a long way. Like 10 miles. (Note the Colorado Farm Brewery, which is about halfway. You will need that place after flying lots of rockets in the sun.) -The road turns to dirt. Keep going. Watch for Amish. Listen for banjo music. Avoid those situations, and any herds of sheep. -Turn LEFT on Conejos county road 9. Landmark = Absmeier Gravel Pit. Proceed south on Conejos county road 9 for 1 mile. Enter Southway Gravel Pit, stay left along fence to launch area. When the launch is over, we go to the Farm Brewery for recovery juice.
