Press Release: Spadefoot Story Slam Community
November 21st, 6pm. Theme: Guests
Narrow Gauge Book Cooperative
602 Main Street, Alamosa
719-589-3464; narrowgauge.coop@gmail.com
Each month, the Narrow Gauge Book Cooperative hosts the Spadefoot Story Slam
community, sharing stories based on a theme, selected at the previous month’s Slam.
While inspired by the Moth Story Hour, Spadefoot Story Slam meetings are not a
contest, but instead are a way to come together and practice sharing, and deep
listening.
The theme for November is Guests. From the Moth Game of Storytelling cards, here’s
some inspiration: Prepare a story about visitors. Snooping in your host’s drawers or
overstaying your welcome. In-laws, long-distance lovers, and total strangers. “Make
yourself at home,” “mi casa es su casa,” and other things good hosts say but don’t
always mean. Dinner parties, tourists, open houses, and couch crashers. The key is
under the mat. Tell us about… a time you stayed too long. A time you should have
RSVP’d no. A time someone wore out their welcome.
Creative interpretation of the theme is always an option!
Group Norms:
At the Spadefoot Story Slam, we are here to share stories and listen to each other. We
practice sharing our experiences and receiving experiences without commentary. When
you're not the storyteller you are receiving and practicing deep listening. It takes
courage to speak in front of a group, and we respect each other’s stories and the time it
takes to tell them.
Stories are told from the heart, rather than from the page, and must be true as
remembered by you.
This will be our final story slam of 2026, so you don’t want to miss it!
