Regional Civics Bee Competition

  • Adams State University - Richardson Hall 208 Edgemont Boulevard Alamosa, CO USA (map)

Our community thrives on the foundations of civics, and we are excited to bring the National Civics Bee® to our area. This initiative encourages middle schoolers to learn about American democracy, engage constructively in their communities, and build trust in their fellow citizens and institutions. In partnership with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, we are proud to bring the National Civics Bee to the San Luis Valley!

The competition invites middle schoolers in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades from public, private, charter, and home schools to participate in a civics essay competition as a first round. Community leaders from across the country review the essays, and the highest scoring students from our area will be invited to participate in a live regional event, hosted by the Alamosa County Chamber of Commerce.  The regional competition will feature two rounds of civics quiz questions followed by a Q&A round, providing a platform for students to showcase their civics knowledge.

First, second, and third place finalists in the competition will receive cash prizes, trophies, and recognition. The first-place winner from Colorado will travel to the National Championship to compete for a $100,000 529 college savings plan.
