Narrow Gauge: Spadefoot Story Slam Community, Community Builders, and the City of Alamosa Collaboration Event

  • Narrow Gauge Book Cooperative 602 Main Street Alamosa, CO, 81101 United States (map)

On August 15th at 6pm, the Spadefoot Story Slam Community is partnering with the City of Alamosa and Community Builders for a collaboration and recorded story slam!

Each month, the Narrow Gauge Book Cooperative hosts the Spadefoot Story Slam community, sharing stories based on a theme. In August, the Spadefoot is partnering with the City of Alamosa and Community Builders for the We Are Alamosa/ Somos Alamosa Project.

The theme for August is stories responding to the question What roots you here? Prepare a story about what roots you to Alamosa. A time you felt deeply connected to the land. A person or tradition that keeps you here. Those moments when you think…“That’s so Alamosa!” What you find here that you haven’t found elsewhere. Tell us about…The first time you knew Alamosa was home. What you are looking for, if Alamosa doesn’t feel like home quite yet.

Stories must be true as remembered by you the storyteller and stories must be spoken from the heart, not off the page.

We Are Alamosa/Somos Alamosa and Community Builders

The question, What roots you here? is especially important during the We Are Alamosa/Somos Alamosa Project, coordinated by Community Builders and the City of Alamosa. We Are Alamosa (WRAP) is working to develop a comprehensive plan for the future of Alamosa. A comprehensive plan is a long-term visionary document used to guide policies, programs, and public investments. Through WRAP, the community will guide the City in creating a roadmap for the next decade to maintain community character while better serving the people who live and work here.

The We Are Alamosa Project will run from summer 2026 through fall 2027. WRAP is designed to be collaborative, inclusive, and engaging – built around the voices, experiences, and priorities of the people who live and work in Alamosa.
