Narrow Gauge: Book Signing with Marie Mccolm

The Narrow Gauge Book Cooperative is pleased to host Marie Mccolm for a book signing for her children’s book, Be Nice to Your Friends: Love Needs No Words.

She will have a signing table from 11am until 1pm on September 5th. Drop by and see with her, and learn more about her book!

Marie wrote the following bio and info about her book, if you’d like to learn more!

About the Author:

Marie Mccolm has built a life centered around service, storytelling, hard work, and family. She is a journalist and writer, a franchise business owner, and works for the State of Colorado helping connect families with support and resources. Each of these roles has given Marie the opportunity to serve her community in a different way, but of all the titles she has held throughout her life, there is one she treasures above every other: Mom.

Marie is the proud mother of her son, J.C., a young man with autism who does not communicate through spoken words. Being J.C.’s mother and advocate has taught Marie some of life’s greatest lessons, particularly that a person does not need a voice to have something to say, and that love can be expressed in countless ways without ever speaking a word.

About the Book:

J.C. became the inspiration behind Marie’s children’s book, Be Nice to Your Friends: Love Needs No Words. Marie wrote the story to help children understand that children with special needs, including those who cannot speak, have the same need for friendship, kindness, acceptance, and belonging as everyone else.

Through J.C.‘s story, Marie hopes children will learn to look beyond someone’s differences and discover the person behind them. For children like J.C. who cannot say “I love you” with spoken words, love can be found in a smile, a hug, a look, an act of kindness, or simply in being together.

It is a lesson J.C. has taught his mother every day of his life and the message Marie hopes to share with every child who reads his story: Love needs no words.
