Fort Garland Museum and Cultural Center
Established in 1858, Fort Garland was a frontier U.S. Army post in the San Luis Valley. Today the site includes large parade grounds surrounded by several restored adobe buildings which contain reconstructed 19th-century army quarters, several exhibits, and a large gift shop which features locally-crafted goods and an excellent selection of books on Colorado and the West, EV charging stations and is Dog Friendly. As we reflect on 150 years of statehood and 250 years of nationhood, our exhibits offer visitors a timely opportunity to examine histories and cultural practices that predate state and national borders, while fostering meaningful dialogue about our shared future.
