Congratulations to Ms. Kai's Academy of Performing Arts and SLV Gymnastics for being chosen as our February 2026 Spirit of Alamosa Winner!

Learn a little about what they do:

Tell us a little about your business/organization and what you’re most proud of.

At Ms. Kais Academy of Performing Arts and SLV Gymnastics, we are proud to be more than a studio and gym, we are a family. We’ve created a positive, supportive environment where students feel encouraged to grow, try new things, and believe in themselves. We  offer over 50 class options to students ages 6 months to adults: performing arts to gymnastics.

We’re proud of the opportunities we provide for students of all ages to build confidence, discipline, teamwork, and lasting connections through performance, competition, and movement. Our students, families, and staff are the heart of everything we do, and together we’ve built a place that truly feels like home.

What inspired you to open your business or choose this line of work?
Opening Ms. Kais Academy of Performing Arts and SLV Gymnastics has truly been a dream since I was a little girl. I always imagined creating a place where children and students could grow, learn, and shine in a safe, caring space, a place full of joy, encouragement, and opportunity. My family and my lifelong dance friend (Shey) are a huge inspiration to me; their belief in my vision gave me the courage to take that leap and make my dream a reality.

I’m so proud of the community we’ve built, one where every child feels supported, challenged, and loved, and where families come together like a big, cheering family. Nothing brings me more joy than seeing our students grow in confidence, build friendships, and discover new opportunities they never thought possible.

“Let them praise his name with dancing” — Psalms 149:3

What does “Spirit of Alamosa” mean to you personally?
To me, the “Spirit of Alamosa” is the heart and resilience of our community, the way people come together to support one another, celebrate each other’s successes, and lift each other up through challenges. It’s a spirit of kindness, generosity, and pride in our roots, where families, friends, and neighbors create a sense of belonging that feels like home.

Personally, it inspires me every day in my work at Ms. Kais Academy of Performing Arts and SLV Gymnastics. It reminds me why creating opportunities for children in a safe, caring, and encouraging environment, is so meaningful. The Spirit of Alamosa is about connection, growth, and celebrating the gifts in each person, and I am proud to be part of a community that embodies that every day.

How does your business contribute to the Alamosa community?
At Ms. Kais Academy of Performing Arts and SLV Gymnastics, we provide a safe, supportive space where children can grow, learn, and express themselves. Through our classes, performances, competitions, and community events, we create opportunities for youth and adults to build confidence, teamwork, and discipline. Our events bring families and neighbors together, fostering connections and celebrating local talent. We’re proud to help Alamosa thrive, both on and off the dance floor and gym mats.

What’s one thing you wish more people knew about your business or industry?
One thing I wish more people knew about Ms. Kais Academy of Performing Arts and SLV Gymnastics is that we are much more than just dance and gymnastics. We offer classes for all ages, from toddlers to adults, and provide scholarships to ensure every child has the opportunity to participate. Our programs are about building confidence, discipline, teamwork, and resilience, skills that extend far beyond the studio and gym. We create safe, supportive spaces where students can express themselves, take risks, and discover what they’re truly capable of. Behind every performance, routine, and class is growth, courage, and joy, and that’s what makes our work so meaningful.

What’s your favorite part about being a member of the Alamosa Chamber?
My favorite part about being a member of the Alamosa Chamber is the sense of community and support it provides. It’s inspiring to connect with other local business owners who are passionate about helping Alamosa thrive. Being part of the Chamber gives us opportunities to collaborate, give back, and celebrate the people and businesses that make our town so special.

Can you share a memorable moment you’ve had with a customer, client, or community member?
One of my most memorable moments was our very first performance. The kids were so nervous! Some were fidgeting, some were wide-eyed with anticipation, and I could feel their excitement mixed with jitters. Getting the chance to calm their nerves, encourage them, and watch them shine on stage was unforgettable. Seeing their confidence grow as they danced and performed reminded me why I started this dream: That first performance will always hold a special place in my heart.

What values guide your business or leadership style?

Our business and leadership are guided by family values and faith. We prioritize creating a safe, caring, and supportive environment where every student feels valued, just like family. Our faith inspires us to lead with integrity, kindness, and patience, and to encourage our students to grow not only in skill, but in character, confidence, and heart.

What’s something new or exciting happening at your business this year?
This year, we’re thrilled to bring dance classes to our Alamosa location, giving more students the chance to explore movement, creativity, and performance close to home. With 15 incredible teachers on our team, we can now offer even more opportunities for students of all ages to grow, learn, and shine; from classes and private lessons to performances and competitions. It’s an exciting time for our business and our community!

Who has been a key influence or mentor on your journey, and why?
I’ve been fortunate to have several key influences on my journey. My family has always been my foundation, supporting my dreams and encouraging me to pursue my passions no matter what. My teachers inspired me with their dedication, guidance, and belief in my potential, showing me the value of mentorship and hard work. And my students continue to be an incredible influence; their curiosity, courage, and joy remind me every day why I do what I do and inspire me to be a better teacher, leader, and mentor.

What’s one challenge your business has overcome that made you stronger?
One challenge that made us stronger was taking over SLV Gymnastics, revamping it, and expanding our locations and programs. Growing to 15 teachers and managing everything taught us resilience, teamwork, and organization. Seeing our students thrive in these opportunities makes every challenge worthwhile.

In what ways do you and your team stay connected to the community?

We stay connected to the community in many ways. Through classes, performances, competitions, and community events, we create opportunities for children and families to come together and celebrate their talents. Our team also participates in local initiatives, supports families, and partners with other businesses and organizations to give back. Staying engaged with the people of Alamosa helps us understand their needs, build lasting relationships, and make a meaningful impact both inside and outside the studio and gym.

What do you love most about Alamosa and the San Luis Valley?
What I love most about Alamosa and the San Luis Valley is the supportiveness and close-knit nature of our community. People here truly care about one another: neighbors, families, and local businesses come together to celebrate successes and lift each other up during challenges. That sense of connection, trust, and encouragement makes it a wonderful place to live, work, and grow our business.

If you could give one piece of advice to other local businesses, what would it be?

My advice to other local businesses would be to prioritize community and relationships. Building a business isn’t just about products or services, it’s about connecting with your customers, supporting your neighbors, and creating a space where people feel valued and cared for. When you focus on people first, your business grows stronger, and your impact lasts far beyond the bottom line.

What’s next for you or your business? Any goals or dreams you’re excited about?

What’s next for us is incredibly exciting! Our dream is to complete a full renovation of our Alamosa location and expand our Monte Vista location to provide even more space and opportunities for our students. We’re continuing to add new classes in fine arts and performing arts, with the big-picture goal of creating a community arts center where every student has access to creativity and growth. Along with this, we plan to offer scholarships and financial aid so that cost is never a barrier. Our vision is to make the arts accessible, inspiring, and life-changing for every student in our community.
